Educational curricula should have two invaluable basic tenets of ancient Indian vedic culture as well as western inventions. Union Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi said on August 5th, 2001.

Calling upon teachers and students to take a close look at the present day curricula, he said contrary to the belief spread by the British, an excellent community supported network, which could produce expertise, existed in every village here before they took over the administration.

Only after the arrival of the British, the education system was taken over by the Goverment and they tinkered with the education syllabus so as to meet their clerical needs, he said at the decennial celebrations of the Sri Sankara College of Arts and Science at Enathur near here.

The Indian education system of ancient times was not confined to just the elite, but was available to all, he said adding Bhagavas Gita was being taught by the Japanese now as part of the curricula for management courses.

While the contribution of the West to technological advancement and management could never be doubted, a study of the history of Indian culture revealed that the Present day theories found a place in our ancient texts. The Gita, Arthashastra and Sukraneeti had made ample reference to the management Principles, Political Administration and Labour Management. Gita taught about balanced mind and holistic approach to management in contrast to the western ideals of managing only materials, profit and loss and mere marketting he added.

The Indian system of Psychology long ago taught individuals to manage the dichotomy of brain and mind for which the western curricula had clue, Joshi said.
